James Quasney, 69, of Naples, Fla., the father and grandfather of Chesterton
residents, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; daughters Lisa (Joe) Sabol,
Marci Webb, Jodi (John Groen), Amanda (Ryan) Wade, and Nikole (Amy Sandler);
a son, Jeffrey (Susan) Quasney; grandchildren Jake, Kevin, and Trevor Webb,
Hayley, Joey and Kylie Sabol, Eric and Ryan Quasney, and Johnny and Tyler
Groen; and brothers Bill and George.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Quasney; a sister,
Nancy; and brothers Andrew and John Quasney.
James, formerly a resident of East Chicago and Munster, was Professor
Emeritus of the Computer Programming Department--formerly the Computer
Technology Department--at Purdue University Calumet, where he joined the
faculty in 1969 and taught for 25 years. He co-authored more than 50
textbooks and after retiring from Purdue worked as a series editor for the
Shelly-Cashman textbook series.
Cremation was held privately. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church, 1511 LaPorte Ave. in
Valparaiso, the Revs. Kevin McCarthy and Robert Gehring officiating.
