George “Mel” Melvin Moore, 80, of Portage, passed away Tuesday, March 3,
2009 at VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
He was born May 25, 1928 in Newbern, Tenn., the son of Samuel Moore and
Lillian Jackson Moore, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mel is survived by his daughter, Linda Hampton, of Chesterton; special
family friend, Kathy (Bill) Habhab, of Portage; three grandchildren, Robert
Leslie (Ryann) Hampton, Heather Renee (Danny) Scheetz and George Scott
Hampton, all of Chesterton; eight great-grandchildren, David, MacKenzie,
Matthew, Carter, Lillian, Logan, Danica and Isabella; one brother, Clyde
Russell (Jean) Moore, of LaPorte and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Mae Kotas.
Mel was retired from the Budd Co. in Gary.
A memorial service, Pastor Katie Lindberg officiating, will be at 10 a.m.
Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Johns United Church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave.,
Chesterton.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be given to the church of the donor, or Mel requested that
people may pay on one of their bills.
Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd
St., Chesterton.
