Evelyn Mae Samuelson, age 87 of Porter, IN, passed away Wednesday, September
9, 2009 in Chesterton.
She was born on June 1, 1922 in Valparaiso, the daughter of William T. and
Hazel Mae (Woodman) Ehlers Sr., both of whom preceded her in death.
Mae is survived by her daughters, Judy (Carl) Freeze, Suzanne (Paul) Clemens
and Audrey (Don) Arnold; daughter-in-law, Sandy Samuelson; step-sons, Bruce
(Nancy) Garrett and Brian (Pat) Garrett; sisters, Mabel Brainard and Helen
Hess; grandchildren, Les (Nancy) Arnold, Laura (Terry) Dull, Helen Ann
(J.D.) Ward, Darren and Guy Dickey, David (Amy) Little, Kim (George) Werner,
Lt. Col. Becky Freeze, Mandy Rickard, and Sara and Michael Clemens;
great-grandchildren, Jorie (Kevin) Furman, Jenna and Josh Arno ld,
Brett (Heather) Dull, Courtney (fiancˇ Steve Georgion) Dull, John and Angela
Ward, Bradley, Crystal and Aaron Dickey, Daniel, Tyler, Jacob and Levi
Dickey, Aiden and Emily Little, Tony Werner and Jordan Kiner;
great-great-grandchildren, Trey Georgion and Bryce Furman; many nieces,
nephews and close friends; and childhood friend, Jeanette DeKoker.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen Garrett in 1945; second
husband, Carl Leslie Samuelson in 1992; son Carl George Samuelson; sisters,
Margaret BoBo, Mildred Sexton and Pauline Ehlers; brothers, William “Bud”
Ehlers, Leroy Gaston and Milton Danderson; and great-granddaughter, Brandi
Dickey.
Mae was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Porter United
Methodist Church and was a member of the Women’s Society at Porter United
Methodist Church. She worked as a Cashier at National T Grocery and was a
homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, driving fast, summers at their cottage in
the UP, playing cards, Couples Club, Secret Pal and circles at church,
wordsearch puzzles and embroidery work.
Funeral services, Pastor G. Thomas Jones officiating, will be at 11a.m.
Monday, September 14, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway,
Chesterton. Interment will follow at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, September 13 at the funeral home.
