Eugene A. “Tim”
Thomas, 80, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009.
He was born
March 16, 1929 in Chesterton, the son of Alvin and Grace (Reeves) Thomas,
both of whom preceded him in death.
On November 13,
1948 in Princeton, he married Dorothy Novak, who preceded him in death Jan.
26, 2009.
He is survived
by a son, James Thomas of Union Mills, and daughter Karen (Bill) Radiger;
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded
also in death by a son, Kenneth and sisters, Iris Brewster and Inez
Dillingham.
Tim retired from
NIPSCO in 1988 after 42 years of service as the General Gas Distribution
Supervisor. He was one of the founders and coach for the Liberty Recreation
Baseball/Softball League, a member of Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623. He was
an avid fisherman, hunter, member of Michiana Retriever Club and a licensed
judge for the American Kennel Club.
A Mass of
Christian Burial, Father Doug Mayer officiating, will be at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, June 20, at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 356 W. 700 N., Valparaiso.
Cremation will follow services at Heritage Crematory, Portage.
A visitation
will be Friday, June 19, from 4 - 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Edmonds
& Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Memorials may be
made to the VNA Hospice Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
