Eugene “Gene” Joseph Jr., age 42 of Westville, formerly of Chesterton, passed
away Monday, February 23, 2009 in Michigan City.
He was born on May 24, 1966 in Gary, the son of Eugene Joseph Sr. and Yolanda
(Valdes) Reed. His father preceded him in death and his mother (Yolanda
(Clyde) Reed survives in Valparaiso.
He was married to Darla Smith, who survives of Westville.
Gene is also survived by a son, Brandon Marek of Portage; daughters, Nicole (Tye)
McCoy of Merrill, Wis., Michelle Joseph (Brian McCamley) of Merrill, Wis.,
Amber (Daniel) Coomes of Evansville; Brandi and Samantha Joseph of
Valparaiso; step daughters, Toni Renae Stephens of Westville, and Randi
Detraz (Josh Cox) of Portage; grandchildren, Makayla, Jared, Nathan, Ethan,
Savannah, Malachi and Dylan; step brother, Sam (Shawna) Reed of Portage;
sister, Sandee (Tim) Mann of Wheatfield; many nieces and nephews; and special
friends, Carla Joseph and Darlene Heimerl.
He was preceded in death also by brothers, Gary Valdes and Jerry Joseph Sr.
Gene worked in Construction for Laborers Union Local #81. He was a member of
Valley Baptist Church and the American Legion #502. Gene was an avid hunter
and fisherman and enjoyed riding four-wheelers and his Harley. He always
lived life in the “Fast Lane.” He was a beloved husband, father, Papa Gene,
and best friend.

Thursday, February 26 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941
Central Ave., Portage. Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory,
Portage.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26 from 3:30 p.m. until the
