Dorothy M. Schwinkendorf, 95, of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, March 13,
2009 at Life Care Center of Willows, she was a long time resident of Pines
Village Assisted Living.
She was born August 20, 1913 in Chicago, the daughter of William and Hilda
(Hansen) Brady, both of whom preceded her in death.
On June 13, 1934 she married Harold Thorgren who preceded her in death in
1956. She then married Howard Schwinkendorf on July 15, 1959 in Valparaiso.
He preceded her in death in 2000.
She is survived by five children, Judith Nagel of Chicago, Candy (Robert)
Crone of Chesterton, Karen (Ray) Silhavy of Valparaiso, Laura Anderson of
Fla. and Edward (Rosemary) Schwinkendorf of Valparaiso; 10 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Schwinkendorf; son-in-law, Orval
Anderson; two sisters and two brothers.
She graduated from Bowen High School in Chicago and went on to work at
Indiana General as a steel inspector for 25 years, retiring in 1973. She was
an active member of Heritage Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to Bible
study at Liberty Bible Church.
She also enjoyed her family, traveling, dancing and pinochle.
Funerals services, Rev. Joseph Ostafinski officiating, will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday, March 19 at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso,
with visitation before the service from 9-11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Pines Village Good Samaritan Fund.
