Chesterton resident Dolores E. Baker passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009
at her home. She was 80.
Born on Feb. 4, 1929 in Saginaw, Mich., she was the daughter of Jack and
Estelle (Cheyznick) Grachek. On Nov. 20, 1948, she married Joseph Baker, who
preceded her in death in 1991.
She is survived by daughters Carol Salamonski of Arlington Heights, Ill.,
and Laurie Oskierko (husband John) of Valparaiso; brother David Grachek
(wife Irene) of Lansing, Mich.; grandchild Ryan Balla of Chicago; and three
nieces and two nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Deborah
Balla.
Dolores attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton and was a member
of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Steger, Ill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at
St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, with Father
James Meade officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet
City, Ill. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1 p.m until 6 p.m. at the
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Memorials may be
made in the form of masses to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
