Derek E. Dodd, age 23 of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday August 4, 2009 in Valparaiso.

Derek was born January 23, 1986 in Chicago, the son of Bobby L. and Rita M. (Marek) Dodd, both of whom survive of Chesterton.

Derek is also survived by his daughter, Riley M. Dodd of Chesterton; brothers, Nathan Lee Dodd and Dylan D. Dodd, both of Chesterton; sister, Julianna M. Dodd (Christopher S. Daniel) of Porter; and paternal grandmother, Catherine Dodd of Chicago.

Derek was an area resident for seven years, coming from Chicago. He worked as a Tuck Pointer for Bricklayers Union Local 52 and Allied Crafts. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was an Eagle Scout.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Rev. James Meade officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Chesterton..

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, with a wake service held at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a trust fund that is currently being set up for his daughter Riley.
