Blanche Evelyn Skibbie dies at 90

Blanche Evelyn Skibbie, 90, of Chesterton, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009 at her home.

She was born December 11, 1918 in Hurley, New Mexico the daughter of Silver A. and Mabel (Sharringhousen) Witte, both of whom preceded her in death.

On October 5, 1946 in Chesterton, she married Edgar J. Skibbie, who survives in Chesterton.

She is survived by daughters, Carole Ann (Harry) Vallangeon of Chesterton, Mary Jane (Kenneth) Hoesman of Chesterton and Lynne Marie Skibbie of Chesterton; three grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Vallangeon, Jennifer (Todd) Cole and Brian Hoesman; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Aidan and Chloe Evelyn Cole (named after her great-grandmother) and her watch dog, Cody.

She was also preceded in death by a brother Everett Witte and a sister, Dorothy Pratt.

Blanche was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, she loved playing cards and used to belong to a pinochle club.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be at noon Friday, May 8 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, May 8 from 10 a.m. until time of mass at noon at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made in the form of masses.

Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton is in charge of arrangements.
