Chesterton resident Barbara A. Pendleton died while surrounded by family
members on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in
Michigan City. She was 75.
Born Oct. 13, 1934 in Michigan City, she was the daughter of Joseph and
Henrietta Scheerer Porter, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 15,
1962 in Michigan City, she married Harold A. Pendleton, who preceded her in
death in 1991.
She is survived by children Doretta “Dee” Sturgeon (husband Ronald) of
LaPorte, Dennis Pendleton (wife Jean) of Trail Creek, Susan Kist (Bob) of
Coloma, Mich., David Pendleton (Laura) of Liberty Township, and Scott
Pendleton (Michelle) of Chesterton; 12 grandchidlren; seven
great-grandchildren; and two furry cats.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
daughter Patricia Templeton, who died on June 28, 2009, and brothers Dale
and Eldon Porter.
Barbara was a wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother who lived for her
family and spent her entire life safeguarding that privilege by shepharding
anyone who entered her home. She loved life in every way, even during her
last years when she had to endure the health difficulties she encountered.
She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Michgian City and enjoyed
China painting.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at 3 p.m. from the
White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. A private family
entombment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. The family will
receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at White-Love
Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Visiting Nurse Association of
