Alice Ward dies at 78

Chesterton resident Alice C. Ward, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso.

She was born June 8, 1931, in Chesterton, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Brown) Linderman, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death in 1976 by her husband, Edward Eugene Ward.

She is survived by seven children, Carolyn (Jerry) Staff, Michael (Susie) Ward, Mary (Dan) Haley, Gerald (Brenda) Ward, and Dawn (David) Kara, all of Chesterton, Patricia Warren of Michigan City, and Edward (Marge) Ward of Lakewood, N.J.; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ivy Pearl Davis of Porter.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Ward; granddaughter, Lisa Ward; and siblings, Sarah Able, Cary Marshall, Mabel Veden, Fritz Linderman, Walt Linderman, and Frank Linderman.

Alice, a homemaker, enjoyed crocheting and making latch hook rugs.

Funeral services, Father James Meade officiating, are scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton. Cremation will follow services.

The family will also receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White-Love.
