Steven Harold Leffert, 50, passed away November 5, 2008 at St.
Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart after a long illness.
He was born February 20, 1958
in Logansport, the son of Cecil and Charlene (Brant) Leffert, both of whom
survive.
He is also survived by his
wife, Jeannie (Hankins) Leffert; sons, Steven A. (Jessica) Leffert of Portage
and Robert W. Leffert of South Haven; daughter, Aleece Leffert of Chesterton;
step-daughters, Jennifer Hott of Lake Station and Amber (William) Carter of
Portage; step-sons, Daniel Wendrickx and Robert Wendrickx; sisters, Diane
(Marty) Martin of Valparaiso and Michelle (William) Moore of Valparaiso; and
numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his grandparents, Arthur and Triva Leffert and Harold and Hilda Brant.
Steven was a 1977 graduate of
Portage High School. Steve worked 16 years for Verizon (GTE) as a Supply
Attendant in Portage. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in
Portage, a life member of the Sons of the Legion Post 502 in South Haven. He
enjoyed calling bingo at Post 502, shooting horseshoes and pool with his
friends and also taking his now adopted grandson to his soccer and baseball
games. He’ll be missed by all.
Funeral services, Rev.
Timothy Engel officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave. in Portage. Interment will
take place at McCool Cemetery in Portage.
Visitation will be from 2-4
p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 7 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage
Chapel.
