Ruth A. Walstra dies at 76

Ruth A. Walstra, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. She was 76.

She was born May 7, 1932 in Michigan City, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Fuller) Carpenter, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Sept. 22, 1950, she married Virgil “Duke” Walstra, who preceded her in death in 2007.

She is survived by a son, Doug (Paula) Walstra, of Portage; a daughter, Cindy (Joe) Wall, of Chesterton; four grandchildren, Doug Walstra II, Jessica (John) Taylor, Joe Wall, II and Matt Wall; six great-grandchildren, Abbey, Izzy, Autumn, Cole, Bianca and Teagan.

She is also survived by a brother, Raymond (Fran) Carpenter, of Valparaiso; four sisters, Beverly Shepard, of Chesterton, Geraldine Pliske, of Burns Harbor, Nancy (Bill) Green of Florida and Mary Beth (Jim) Brown of Texas.

Ruth was a homemaker and a 1950 graduate of Chesterton High School.

Funeral services, Minister Edwina Shields officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29 at White-Love Funeral Home.
