Richard Lee Williams dies at 68

Richard Lee Williams, of Liberty Township, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. He was 68.

He was born January 24, 1940 in Starke County the son of George and Emma (Coonfare) Williams, both of whom preceded him in death.

On April 2, 1966 he married Betty Dowd who survives along with two children, Laurie (Derrill) Smith of Sunset, S.C., Chris Lee Williams of Liberty Twp., and a step-daughter, Tina (Bruce) Pearson of Ky.

He is also survived by a brother, Arthur (Lois) Williams of Union Twp., three sisters, Alwilda (William) Latta of Hanna, Frances Long and Linda Jackson both of Bourbon; two grandchildren, Bruce and Kayla Smith; two step-grandchildren, April and Crystal and two step-great grandchildren, Catalina and Alana.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ina Jean Troyer and Fern Strong.

He served with the Army National Guard, was a member of Laurel Christian Church in Merrillville and had worked in the Roll Shop at Bethlehem Steel for 35 years, retiring in 2003.

A funeral service, Pastor Larry Rafferty officiating, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Graceland Cemetery mausoleum, with entombment to follow.
