Richard J. Jack Vanderlinden dies at 70

Richard J. “Jack” Vanderlinden, age 70 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at his home.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1937 in Chicago, the son of the late Richard and Florence (Wehlau) Vanderlinden Sr.

He was married on June 24, 1961 in Ivanhoe, Ill. to Carol Metzner who survives in Chesterton.

Jack is also survived by his daughters, Lori (Steven) Smith of Lake Zurich, Ill., Shari (Scott) Hart of Shelby Township, Mich., Paula Vanderlinden of Palatine, Ill., and Sue (Scott) Boehringer of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Penny (Harris) Van Drunen of Lowell and grandchildren, Michael and Bryan Smith, and Sam and Matthew Boehringer.

Jack was an area resident since 2001, previously of Glenwood, Ill., and was a member of Chesterton First United Methodist Church. He worked for JB Webb as a Manager of Engineering and was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Jack enjoyed photography and history. He graduated from Thorton Township High School in 1955 and from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1975. He also received a Master’s Degree from IIT in 1979.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Chesterton First United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. Entombment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
