Joseph D. Hannon dies at 95

Joseph D. Hannon, of Chesterton, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 at his residence. He was 95.

Joseph was born on June 27, 1912 the son of Edward L. and Ethel A. (Dodd) Hannon, both of whom preceded him in death.

On Oct. 26, 1940 in Gary, he married Geraldine M. Lawson, who preceded him in death in 1990.

He is survived by daughters; Marlene (Art) Cobbs of Chesterton and Diane (Daniel) Coughlin of Fort Wayne; a brother, John (Agnes) Hannon of LaPorte; grandchildren, Christopher (FiancÚ Jane) Cobbs of Indianapolis, Gregory (Chemaine) Cobbs of Ketchikan, Alaska, Nathan (FiancÚ Karen) Cobbs of Chesterton, Sara Cobbs of Chesterton, Carrie (Brian) Richards of Fort Wayne, Emily Coughlin of Fort Wayne, Hillary Coughlin of Fort Wayne, and two great-grandchildren, Joleyn and Jericho Cobbs of Ketchikan, Alaska.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Hannon and Jane Kemper.

Mr. Hannon worked as a supervisor of Plant Utilities at U.S. Steel Gary Works for 36 years. He retired in 1977. He was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus for 76 years and a former member of the Supervisors Club for U.S. Steel. He used to take in foster children and raised three boys in foster care. Joseph was a dedicated uncle to his nephew Bill Muller.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 29, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton,.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday in the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Church Building Fund or V.N.A. Hospice Center of Porter County.
