James R. Frederick, Sr. dies at 67

James R. Frederick, Sr., 67, of Valparaiso, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the VNA Hospice Center.

He was born July 7, 1940 in Blue Island, Ill. the son of Fred J. and Eleanor (Gruhlke) Frederick, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.

On October 21, 1960 he married Jeanette “Jean” Cowles who survives.

He is also survived by three children, Joyce (Dave) Robinson, Jeri (Paul) Mateer and James “Jay” (Tracy) Frederick, Jr., all of Valparaiso; three sisters, Dianne Frederick of Dolton, Ill., Joanne (Frank) Rhein of Chicago Heights, Ill., Barbara (Bill) Warmoth of Charleston, Ill., sister-in-law, Leona Frederick of Lindenhurst, N.Y. and four grandchildren, David Robinson, Jess and Becki Mateer and J.R. Frederick, III.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred and an infant sister, Beverly.

Jim had owned and operated Building Service and Supply, then Engravables, both in Valparaiso. He had served on the Valparaiso Plan Commission and Valparaiso Board of Zoning Appeals, was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and member of the Valparaiso Elks Lodge and Valparaiso Lions Club.

A funeral service, Rev. Matt Willingham officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. Interment will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday at Moeller Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County or Valparaiso Lions Club.
