Jack Shepard (W9LOZ) dies at 88

Jack Shepard, (W9LOZ), of Porter passed away January 12, 2008 at VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 88.

He was born Nov. 2, 1919 in Goodland, Ind., the son of Roy O. and Charlotte (Kitt) Shepard, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly J. (nee Carpenter) Shepard, of Porter. Jack and Beverly were united in marriage Dec. 15, 1964.

He is also survived by two sons, Roy (Leslie) Shepard and David (Carol) Shepard, of Chesterton; two daughters, Linda Wheatman of Chesterton and Tina Shepard of Culver, Ind. He is survived by a step-daughter, Rhonda (Craig) Tilden of Porter and two step-sons, Leonard (Susan) Shields of Chesterton and Jeffrey (Tracy) Shields of Porter; a sister and niece, Harriet and Linda Briney of Hobart; five grandsons, eight granddaughters, four great-grandsons and eight great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Shepard and three brothers, Joseph, Reese and Fred Shepard.

Jack was a ham radio operator and enthusiast (W9LOZ) for over 50 years.

A memorial service, Pastor Tony Goin officiating, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Lighthouse Christian Center, 521 W. 1100N, Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be given to VNA Horton Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, or Duneland Community Church, 1050 Broadway, Suite 8, Chesterton.

Arrangements were handled by Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home of Chesterton.
