Chesterton resident Ivan Etchason died Friday, November 14, 2008 at the Waters of Duneland Health Care Center in Chesterton. He was 75.

Born in Gary on August 15, 1933, he was the son of Homer and Sylvia (Kayler) Etchason. On July 21, 1960 in Porter,  he married Lavonne A. Charlson, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2005.

He is survived by children, Cindy Moore (husband Leland)  of Frazee, Minn., Christopher Etchason (wife Karla) of Valparaiso,  and Raymond Etchason (Karen) of Valparaiso; brother Robert Etchason (wife Mae) of Chesterton; sister Olive Etchason of Danville, Ill.; grandchildren Jennifer Acevedo (Antonio) of Minnesota, Matthew Moore (Tina)  of Minnesota; great grandchildren Antonio Acevedo Jr., Tanyon & Maya Moore, all of Minnesota.

 In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents,  brothers Arthur and Donald, and sisters Marlene and Edith.

 Ivan worked for NIPSCO as a gas service man. He was involved in Liberty Township little league and the Cub and Boy Scouts. He was also an avid fisherman.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. Co. Rd. 1100 N. Chesterton, with Rev. Erich Fickel officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home 517 Broadway, Chesterton, and on Monday  from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
