Helen D. Garbe dies at 72

Helen D. Garbe, age 72 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Valparaiso.

She was born on October 16, 1935 in Baltimore, Md. the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Brooks) Rommel.

She was married on Dec. 18, 1954 in Porter, to Clarence Garbe, who survives in Chesterton.

Helen is also survived by her daughter, Deborah (Keith) Reynolds of Chesterton; brothers, Charles and Lester Rommel; grandchildren, Crystal and Renee; and numerous great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Peterson.

Helen was an area resident since 1954. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chesterton. Helen was the former president of the Pine Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and used to be very involved in 4-H in Pine Township.

Funeral services, Pastor Erich Fickel officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. 1100 N., Chesterton. Interment will follow at Furnessville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Monday, July 28, until the time of service at the church. www.EE-FH.com
