Gerald “Jerry” S. Munson, age 61, of Chesterton, passed away
on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center in
Michigan City.
Jerry was born on June 24,
1947 in Clearfield, Pa. the son of David and Mildred
(Thompson) Munson, both of whom survive in Munster.
He is also survived by his
wife of 32 years, Ilene (nee Berk) of Chesterton; sons, Anthony (Melinda)
Schleizer of Houston, Texas, Shawn Schleizer of Glenview, Ill., and Douglas
Munson of Chicago; a brother, David (Tina) Munson; a sister, Debbie (Mike)
Marinaro; six grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jerry
was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. He lived in the
Chesterton area for over 32 years coming from Hammond. Jerry was an
electrician for 32 years and 32 days for Heckett Engineering and was a
member of the Operating Engineers Local 150. He had a great love for his
cats and all animals, his family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors. He
was a great practical joker and storyteller and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
He was much beloved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be
set at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Independent Cat Society or
Fried’s Cat Shelter, Inc. 509 Hwy 212, Michigan City, IN 46360. Arrangements
were handled by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
