George W. Lawson dies at 76

George W. Lawson, of Porter, passed away Tuesday evening, August 12, 2008 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center, Michigan City. He was 76.

He was born Nov. 28, 1931 in Chicago, the son of John and Elizabeth (McClain) Lawson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was preceded in death on Dec. 1, 1975 by his wife Betty (Janowski) Lawson.

He is survived by four children, Patti (Rick) Steen, of Porter, Janice (Norman, Sr.) Matel, of Modesto, Calif., Mark (Teresa) Lawson, of Porter and Gege (Tim) Quinn, of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Dorothy) Lawson, of Lansdale, Pa.

He is also preceded in death by brothers, Chuck and Lester Lawson.

George was retired from NIPSCO, where he was an electrician, with 27 years service. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. Of great joy to George was feeding the geese in the Chesterton area and taking car rides with a fresh cup of McDonald’s coffee. He also enjoyed gardening and stamp collecting.

Funeral services, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will follow at Augsburg Cemetery, Porter.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at White-Love Funeral Home.
