Genoa L. Borg dies at 90

Genoa L. Borg, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 at the home of her son in Portage. She was 90.

She was born May 20, 1917 in Chesterton, the daughter of Vernon and Elenor Bartels, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Sept. 8, 1946 at Augsburg Lutheran Church, she married Delmar Borg, who preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by sons, Bruce (Pam) Borg, of Portage; Kevin (Kathryn) Borg, of Hinsdale, Ill. and Curtis Borg, of New York City; six grandchildren, Stacey (Larry) Trzeciak, Stephanie (Sam) Samardzija, Valerie Borg, Michael Borg, Andrew Borg and Christopher Borg; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell Trzeciak, Alec Trzeciak, Jakob Bryan and Nikolas Samardzija.

She was also preceded sister Beverly Kervin.

Genoa was a 1935 graduate of Chesterton High School. She and her husband Delmar operated Bartels Hardware in Chesterton from 1960 until their retirement in 1977. A member of Augsburg EV Lutheran Church in Porter, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and beating her family in Tivial Pursuit board game.

Funeral services, Pastor Erik Bernth officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will follow at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at the White-Love Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to VNA Hospice Home Care, 501 Marquette St.
