Frances Newell dies at 83

Frances Newell, of Chesterton, passed away on Saturday March 29, 2008 at the V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was 83.

Frances was born on April 2, 1924 the daughter of Martin and Katherina (Kovas) Murato, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Monica (Michael) Smith of Warsaw, Ind. and Kristy (Clifford) Boettler; grandchildren, Bryce, age 12, and Quinn, age 10.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Harlan E. Newell; three brothers, Frank, Ignace and Charles Murato and sister Mary Zunich.

Frances was very active in St. Patrick Parish. She supported the Chesterton High School Band and was a member of the Duneland Historical Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Interment will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Wake Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the V.N.A. Horton Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
