Eileen McGlynn Flaherty dies at 86

Eileen McGlynn Flaherty, of Chesterton, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008. She was 86.

She was born July 6, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Mary Ellen “Molly” (Rowley) McGlynn and Joseph Laughlin McGlynn.

On January 30, 1946 in Lakewood, Ohio, she married Paul Patrick Flaherty, who preceded her in death on May 9, 1999, after 53 years of marriage.

She is survived by four sons and four daughters, Molly (Michael) Haas of Fitzwilliam, N.H., James of East Timor, Daniel of Warsaw, Ind., Roy of Chesterton, Mary Katherine (William) Hamilton of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., Paul (Janet) of Encino, Calif., Eileen (Gregory) Lee of East Waterboro, Maine, Marjorie (Thomas) Potter of Chesterton; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Flaherty, Mary Ellen and William Simonovich and June Ann and Joseph Zvosecz, all of Lorain, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, James McGlynn Haas; a daughter-in-law, Judith W. Flaherty; a sister, Marjorie Saunders and two brothers, Bernard McGlynn and James V. McGlynn, S.J.

Eileen was a graduate of Lourdes Academy and Ursuline College in Cleveland and received her Masters degree in Education from Valparaiso University. She has lived in Chesterton since 1955, having moved from Lakewood, Ohio. She was a member of St. Patrick Church and taught first grade for many years at St. Patrick School.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, with a lunch to follow at the Moose Lodge, 602 Broadway, Chesterton.

The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St., Chesterton.

Prayer service will be at 8 p.m..
