Dr. Lars Hakan Velander, DDS dies at 73

Dr. Lars Hakan Velander DDS, of Ogden Dunes, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in Regency Hospital, Portage. He was 73.

He was born July 21, 1934 in Stockholm, Sweden the son of Karl Gustaf and Ruth (Rasmusson) Velander, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Karin M. Plym Forshell-Velander M.D., medical director at NIOMS - Occupational Health Clinic in Portage and Valparaiso.

He is also survived by a daughter, Lehna (Mattias) Edwall; grandchildren, Alice, Bill, Esther and a son, Peter Velander, all of Stockholm, Sweden and other family and friends.

Lars was a Captain in the Royal Swedish Army Reserve Medical Corps. He was an Associate Professor of Dentistry at Northwestern University of fixed prosthodontics.

Memorial Services will be private at Augsburg E.V. Lutheran Church, Porter.
