Damon Rogers dies at 88

Porter resident Damon Ray Rogers, 88, died Thursday, July 31, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1920, in Fosslyn, Ky., the son of James Thomas and Collie May (Wright) Rogers, who preceded him in death.

On May 16, 1941, in Valparaiso, he married Frances Helen Cochran, who survives in Porter.

Also surviving are a son, Thomas (wife Abbey) Rogers of Chesterton; granddaughter and caregiver Christina Rogers (James Adams) of Porter; a sister, Sarah Conyers of Kentucky; and a brother, Oscar (wife Klota) Rogers of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

A resident of the area since 1937, Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II and was a machinist-foreman for many years at Talos Manufacturing in Chesterton.

Funeral services, Chaplain Craig Furwalter officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton, with interment and military rites to follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at White-Love.
