Bennie Joe Prichard, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in Valparaiso.

He was 71.

He was born April 21, 1936 in Holland, Mo., the son of Joseph and Mary Sue (Joyce) Prichard, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was married to Marilyn York, who survives in Portage.

He is also survived by a son, Gerald “Jerry” Prichard of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Jennie Doss of Jackson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Bradley of Vancouver, Wash. and Brian and Gregory of McMinnville, Ore.. and numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Donny Starrier and a host of dearly loved friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, John E. Prichard.

Bennie was an area resident since the 1950’s coming from Mo. He worked as an Expediter for LTV Steel and was a member United Steel Workers Local Union #1011. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Funeral services, Pastor Timothy Engel officiating, will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
