Alfred A. Vogedes, of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday,
December 2, 2008, at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was 80.
He was born June 11, 1928 in
Marathon, Wis., the son of John and Eleanor (Yonkers) Vogedes, both of whom
preceded him in death.
On August 10, 1957 in
Wausau, Wis., he married Janice M. Rosentreter. His wife of 51 years
survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by three
children, Daniel Vogedes and Randall Vogedes, both of Michigan City and
Linda Vogedes, of Chesterton; five grandchildren, Casey, Ashley, Brooke,
Dylan and Erik; one sister, Rita (Gerald) Heidl, of Marathon, Wis.
He was also preceded in
death by his brothers, John Vogedes, Jr., Lester and Hugo Vogedes and a
sister, Doris Lucille Vogedes.
Al was a member of St.
Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton, and retired from the 76 Mechanical Unit
at Inland Steel Co. where he was a crane mechanic, having retired in 1991
with 33 years service.
He loved to bowl and was a
member of the Inland Steel Bowling Team. He was a member of the Northern
Indiana Historical Power Association, and volunteered for many years at
Sunset Hill Park. Al was very proud of the John Deere Tractor, a 1928 model,
which he fully restored and is in working condition to this date.
A Mass of Christian Burial,
Fr. Lawrence Heeg officiating, will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6
at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 648 N. Calumet Road. Interment will follow
at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive
friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd
St., Chesterton. Rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Memorials may be given to
the family in Al’s memory.
