William H. 'Bill' Alders dies

William H. “Bill” Alders, of Chesterton, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2008 in Valparaiso.

He was born in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Glenn A. and Gladys (Evans) Alders.

He was married on October 16, 1945 in Youngstown, OH to Eunice (nee Morris) Alders, who survives of Chesterton.

Bill is also survived by his son, Larry (Judy) Alders of Chesterton, and four grandchildren, Sarah, Jacob, Andrew and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Robert Alders.

Bill was an area resident since 1958, coming from Youngstown, Ohio and was a member of the Christian Church of Youngstown. He was a former member of the Valparaiso Country Club, an avid golfer and when Ohio State played, the rest of the world stood still. Bill was a pilot with many certifications and served on the Porter County Airport Board of Authority. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II stationed in Okinawa for two years, retiring from the Navy as a Commander. He also served 22 years in the Naval Reserve. Bill worked as an Assistant Chief Engineer for US Steel Gary Works, retiring after 34 years of service.

At Bill’s direction, there will be no visitation, cremation will take place at Heritage Crematory, Portage, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN.
