Woodrow J. McCombs, of Zolfo Springs, Fla., formerly of Alabama and
Chesterton, died April 23, 2007 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port
Charlotte after a brief illness.
He was 81.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Berthel Pass, whom he married on Sept.
18, 1948.
He is also survived by five children, Patricia (Dan) Reed of Minnesota, Jim
McCombs of Chesterton, Paul (Barb) McCombs of Ariz., Linda (John) Didelot of
Chesterton, William (Gayle) McCombs of Westville; 13 grandchildren, Alicia,
Michael and Gabriel Masiulis, Darrin McCombs, Laura Mosley, Karen Iuli, Arin
Kruper, Andrew and Phil Didelot, Hayley Valent, Steve Shaw, Lindsey Lewis and
Sara Nadratowski and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roxie Maude Pool McCombs and Thomas
McCombs; brothers, Mansel and Jesse and sisters, Mary and Lilly.
Woodrow was a lifetime member and a past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 10285 in Wauchula, Fla., having served in the Army. He was retired
from Bethlehem Steel, was a member of the Lions Club and was an avid golfer
and member of the Bluffs Golf Course and scored a hole in one at the Forest
Park Country Club in Valparaiso. He attended the First Baptist Church in
Zolfo Springs.
Services were held Friday, April 27 at the Brant Funeral Chapel in Wauchula
with interment in Wauchula Cemetery. Rev. Jack White officiated.
