Virginia Ann Wehner, age 76 of Portage, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007
in Valparaiso.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1931 in Mackinaw City, Mich. the daughter of the
late James and Marguerite (Desy) Marsh.
She was married on Sept.14, 1949 in Mackinaw City, Mich. to Charles R. Wehner
who preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Wehner is survived by a son, David Wehner of Queensland, Australia;
daughters, Jody Zelencik of Portage, Belinda Petroskey of Portage, Christina
Cole of Portage, Maggie Wehner of Stevensville, Wis., Laurie Wehner-Evans
(John) of Chesterton and Nancy Samuelson (Don) of Portage; brothers, Charles
(Nancy) Marsh of Cheboygan, Mich., John (Georgia) Marsh of Marshall, Mich.
and Patrick Wagner of Cheboygan, Mich.; sisters, Marguerite (Jim) McPeak of
Petoskey, Mich. and Blanche (Gordon) Sheldon of Cheboygan, Mich.;
grandchildren, Brian Zelencik of Portage, Caleb (Alyson) Zelencik of
McCorsdville, Ind., Matthew Petroskey of Franklin, Ind., Laura Petroskey of
Portage, Justin Wehner of Santa Barbara, Calif., Elise Adams of Orlando, Fla.
and Michael Wehner of Portage; great granddaughter, Amanda; sisters-in-law,
Mary Marsh of Charlevoix, Mich. and Lucy Marsh of Champaign, Ill. and
son-in-law, Bob Petroskey of Franklin, Ind.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and James Marsh.
Mrs. Wehner was an area resident since 1959 coming from Mackinaw City, Mich.
She was a retired mail carrier of the Hobart Post Office. She was a member of
Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church in Portage and served as a past
secretary for the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Nativity of Our Savior
Parish. She was a graduate of Mackinaw City High School. Mrs. Wehner was
active in many school events and community activities while her children were
growing up. She was devoted to her family, her church, and her garden. She
was an excellent cook and she loved to travel and enjoyed reading.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m on Friday, Oct. 26, at Nativity
of Our Savior Parish, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, with a visitation at the
church from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Lake View Cemetery, Mackinaw
City, Mich.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral
Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. A wake service will be at
Thursday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Nativity of Our
Savior Catholic Church.
