Melissa Ann Salcedo-Munoz dies at 35

Melissa Ann Salcedo-Munoz, 35, of Moulton, Iowa, died Friday, May 4, 2007 near Biggsville, Ill. in an automobile accident.

She was born May 5, 1971 in Valparaiso, the daughter of Larry and Martha (Myers) Whisler, both of whom survive in Coatsville, Mo.

Melissa was united in marriage to Jamie R. Houghtlen in 1989. They were later divorced and in September of 1999 in Chesterton, she married Octavio Salcedo-Munoz, who survives in Moulton, Iowa.

She is also survived by children, Devin Houghtlen, Lindsey Houghtlen, Drew Houghtlen and Andrianna Salcedo-Munoz, all of Moulton, Iowa; a step-daughter, Janet Salcedo-Munoz of Guadalajara, Mexico; brothers, David Whisler and wife Sheila Cooper Whisler of Chesterton; Danny (Adelina) Whisler of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister, Melanie Whisler Dickson, husband, Brian Dickson of Chesterton; aunt and uncle Nancy and Doc Whisler of Porter and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marta Cooper on Nov. 5, 2006 and a brother, Martin Lynn Whisler.

Melissa graduated from Chesterton High School in 1989 and from Ivy Tech in Gary and later attended Indian Hills in Ottumwa.

Funeral services, Rev. Reg Higgenbottom, were May 9 at Christian Church, Moulton, Iowa. Interment was at Sunset View Cemetery Moulton, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to her children’s education fund.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schmidt Family Funeral Home, Moulton, Iowa.
