Mary J. Donahue, of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at Porter
Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 88.
She was born Feb. 1, 1918 in Hurley, Wis. the daughter of Dominic and
Josephine (Franko) DiGiorgio, both of whom preceded her in death.
In June 1947 in Chicago, she married George C. Donahue, who preceded her in
death Sept. 10, 1970.
She is survived by two children, Dennis (Dorothy) Donahue, Valparaiso and
Catherine (Dwight) Noble of Liberty Twp.; six grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carmen Cheslak of Chicago, Mildred
Kounick of Texas and Margaret Ruditis of Calif.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.
Mary was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton; a member of
the former Rosary Sodality at St. Pat’s, St. Pat’s Senior Club and the
Seniors Bunco Club. She was a Girl Scout Leader for six years and Royal
Neighbors of America, Goldenrod Camp for 46 years. She was a member of the
Bridge Club and Pinochle Club. She was a waitress at Leonard’s Restaurant in
Chesterton for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be offered at
11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd.,
Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at White-Love Funeral
Home, 525 S. 2nd St. Chesterton. A prayer service will be at 7:45 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial yet to be decided.
