Martha J. Bennett dies at 54

Martha J. Bennett, of LaPorte, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007 at LaPorte Hospital. She was 54.

She was born Feb. 24, 1953 in LaPorte, the daughter of William and Mary Ellen (Fitzgerald) Bowell both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 24, 1976 in LaPorte, Martha married John C. Bennett, who survives.

She is also survived by four children, J. Mark Bennett of LaPorte, Sarah J. (Matt) Courtney of Valparaiso, Aaron J. (Elizabeth) Bennett of Valparaiso and Stephen D. Bennett of Indianapolis; one grandson, Benjamin Courtney and three brothers and one sister, David (Dale) Bowell of Indianapolis, Sue (Roger) Smith of LaPorte, Daniel (Jane) Bowell of Upland and Stephen (Julie) Bowell of Alden, Iowa.

Martha graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1971 and went on to Taylor University where she graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in elementary education. She was a member of Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, where she held leadership roles in Nursery and Women in Touch. Over the course of her life, she was involved in many other ministries including one year of teaching in Indianapolis, Child Evangelism Fellowship and Gideon’s Auxiliary.

A funeral service, Pastor Tim Bax officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton. Interment will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso.
