Marie E. Dewey dies at 87

Marie E. Dewey, 87, of Michigan City, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center.

She was born Aug. 21, 1920 in Kouts, the daughter of Philip and Lida (Benham) Hayes.

On Dec. 21, 1940 in Peru, Ind. she married George E. Jackson, who preceded her in death July 21, 1972. On June 13, 1970 she married Charles F. Dewey, who preceded her in death July 10, 1975.

Marie is survived by three sons, Jerone (Barbara) Jackson and John Jackson both of Michigan City and James Jackson of LaPorte; three sisters, Eunice (Orville) Trumbo of Goldendale, Wash., Inez (Clark) Jenks of Michigan City, Edith (Tom) Pratt of E. Wenatchee, Wash.; two brothers, Robert (Jessie) Hayes of LaCrosse and Dwight (Carol) Hayes of Columbus; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson “Scuby” Stephen Jackson, a daughter-in-law, Rita Jackson; five brothers, Grant (Winnie) Hayes, Eugene (Joyce) Hayes, Herbert Hayes all from LaCrosse, Stanley (Betty) Hayes of French Lick, Earl (Dorothy) Hayes of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, LaVerne (Leslie) Martin of Peru and Margaret (Robert) Bryarly of Valparaiso.

Before retiring, Marie worked for the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, Kaiser Aluminum and American Can in Wanatah.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at Westville Cemetery.

The family has requested memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th St., Suite #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
