Margaret Imre, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at VNA
Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. She was 84.
She was born Nov. 28, 1920 in Sopran, Hungary, the daughter of Istvan and
Margaret (Varga) Horvath, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was the widow of Joseph Imre and was also preceded in death by her first
husband Gabor Demeter.
She is survived by daughters, Maria (Bela) Ihasz of Calimesa, Calif.,
Margaret (Joseph) Frank of Valparaiso and Julie Jacobson of Valparaiso; a
brother Imre Horvath of Sopran, Hungary; four grandchildren, Carolyn Bigman,
Mary (John) Lazur, Matthew (Melissa) Jacobson and Amanda Jacobson; six
great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Istvan Horvath.
Margaret was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a former
member of Holy Trinity in East Chicago, the St. Elizabeth Club, Hungarian
Reformed Club and the Citizen Club in Lynnwood, Ill. Margaret came to the US
in 1952 with her three children and parents, where she settled in Indiana.
She was very devoted to her Hungarian Heritage, her faith and her children.
She loved to cook and bake and people will remember her presence and cooking
at the Hungarian church and picnics.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 10 a.m.
Saturday, Jan. 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd.,
Chesterton. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., with Wake service at 7:30 p.m., Friday, at
Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
