Leopold Kalvaitis 'Lee' dies at 82

“Lee” Leopold Kalvaitis, of Lowell, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at his home. He was 82.

He was born Aug. 9, 1924 in Chicago, the son of Frank and Kazmiera (Geneauskaite) Kalvaitis, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was married April 16, 1948 in St. Edward Catholic Church in Lowell to Margery Miller of Lowell, who survives.

He is also survived by three children, Karen Childress of Hebron, Frank Kalvaitis of Lowell and Donna (Jim) Love of Chesterton and a daughter-in-law, Patty Kalvaitis of Lowell.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Lee (Jennifer) Childress, Mike Kalvaitis, Kristie (Skip) Drew, Matt (Jenanne) Kalvaitis, Mark Childress, Katie (Aaron) Hoffman, Jeremy (Jennifer) Kalvaitis, Elisabeth Kalvaitis, Kyle Childress, Mary Love and Austin Kalvaitis; six great grandchildren; a sister, Monica (Dr. Leonard) Anglis of Lowell and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Butch Childress on April 3, 2006.

Lee was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Doody Council #9696, 3rd Degree Member. He was a lifelong farmer who loved the land and the animals. He was a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to all.

A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. Peter J. Muha officiating, will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Lowell.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Geisen Funeral Home, 624 N. Main St., Hebron, and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Edward’s Church. A Prayer Service will be held at 5 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

The family prefers memorials to the St. Edward Church Building Fund or St. Anthony Hospice.
