Joe Fred Adams dies at 81

Joe Fred Adams of Chesterton, passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2007 at his residence. He was 81.

He was born Oct. 25, 1925, the son of E.O. and Ada (Peacock) Adams, both of whom preceded in death.

On Oct. 27, 1947 in Marks, Miss., he married Martha L. Jenkins, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by four children, Joe Fred (Nancy) Adams, Jr. of Westville, Larry P. (Barb) Adams of Valparaiso, Sheliah A. (Darrell) Swickard of Chesterton and Shirley N. (Mike) Beile of Valparaiso; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Maxine Hughes.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Alan Adams, Douglas Adams and Malcom Adams and a sister, Ruth.

Joe was a member and Deacon of Portage Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon from 1963-2005. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US. Navy and a member American Legion Post #260, Portage. He was a ham radio operator. He was retired from U.S. Steel, Gary Works. He enjoyed bowling, having been in a bowling league for over 20 years. He was a devoted husband and father.

Funeral services, Pastor Jeff Scheffee officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, at White-Love Funeral Home.
