Janie R. Wilder, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at her
home. She was 81.
She was born May 29, 1926 in Cullowhee, N.C., the daughter of the late George
and Mollie (Keener) Watson.
She was married to Clyde A. Wilder, who survives in Portage.
She is also survived by a son, James Michael (Basia) Wilder of Portage; a
daughter, Debra Sue (Charles A.) Gritton; a sister, Nellie Claybo of
Cullowhee, N.C.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Janie was an area resident for 56 years. She was the baby of 10 siblings and
was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Portage. She was a member of the
Eastern Star Hobart Chapel for more than 40 years and served as past Worthy
Matron. She was Precinct Committee Woman during the 1970s. Janie was active
in the PTA throughout her son and daughter’s schooling and also served as Den
Mother to Cub Scout Pack 430 and Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed
her family, home and gardening and was a devoted grandmother and great
grandmother.
Funeral services, Pastor Randall Forsythe officiating, will be at noon,
Monday, Nov. 19 at Grace Baptist Church, 5785 Mulberry Ave., Portage.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral
Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Visitation will also be on
Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at noon at the church.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
