Local artist, Gladys M. Oberlin, of Porter, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at
her residence. She was 80.
She was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of Lawrence and Beulah
(Frank) DeKoker, both of whom preceded her in death.
On Sept. 15, 1967 in South Bend, she married Charles R. Oberlin, who preceded
her in death in 1999.
She is survived by sons, Charlie (Janice) Oberlin of Clearwater, Fla. and
David (Lisa) Oberlin of South Bend; four daughters, Holly Jackson of
Chesterton, Susan Jackson of Porter, Carrie (Tim) Curran of Scotsdale, Ariz.
and Lorie (Frank) Mason of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Emily Simmons of Beverly
Hills, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry DeKoker.
Gladys was an art instructor at the Chesterton Art Center. She was a member
of the Chicago Art Institute and attended Indiana University. She was a
member of Chesterton First United Methodist Church.
A memorial service, Rev. Terry Rhine officiating, will be at 11 a.m.,
Saturday, Sept. 15 at Chesterton First United Methodist Church, 434 S. 2nd
St., Chesterton. Her body has been donated as an anatomical gift.
There will be no visitation.
