Evelyn Murota dies at 87

Evelyn Murota passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at the Plaza at Buckingham in Houston, Texas. She was 87.

She was born June 7, 1920 in Chesterton, the daughter of Frank and Alice Gunder, both of whom preceded her in death.

On May 10, 1941 she married I.J. (Iggie) Murota, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1973.

She is survived by daughters, Trudy Murota, Sharon Cole and her son-in-law, Don Cole.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Gunder; a sister, Belle Gunder, and many friends.

Evelyn and Iggie resided in Valparaiso for a short time prior to settling in their family home in Lake Station. Shortly after her husband died, she accepted a secretary position for the Rev. Monsignor Paul S. Haney at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Station, where she worked for a number of year. She moved to Houston, Texas in 1990, where she enjoyed making new friends at the Hampton on Post Oak and Memorial City Terrace and finally a residence closer to her family for the past 10 years.

Funeral services will at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Graceland Cemetery, Mausoleum Chapel, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel on Saturday.

For those who wish to honor Evelyn in some way, the family would appreciate masses offered in her name at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood, Houston, TX 77080 or donations may be made to the St. Jerome Catholic Church A.C.T.S. Mission at the same address.
