Charles Edward Lawson, of Porter, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007 at
Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was 78.
He was born July 31, 1929 in Chicago, the son of John Oliver and Elizabeth
(McClain) Lawson, both of whom preceded him in death.
In 1950 at St. Patrick Church, he married Shirley Janoski, his wife of 57
years, who survives in Porter.
He is also survived by a son, Rick (Darlene) Lawson, of Valparaiso; a
daughter, Julie (Don) Dayton, of Porter; eight grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Lawson, of Porter and Dick
(Dorothy) Lawson, of Pa.
He was also preceded in death by a son, David Lawson and a brother, Lester
Lawson.
Chuck was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton and a Charter
Member of Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623. He enjoyed wood carving and was a
member of Duneland Wood Carvers. He was a Ham radio operator and enjoyed
working on cars, electronics and radios. He was a do-it-yourselfer with many
talents. He played guitar and loved learning about computers. Chuck was
retired from US Steel where he was a recorder with 33 years service.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade and Fr. Terry Bennis officiating,
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N.
Calumet Rd., Chesterton.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at
11 a.m. at St. Pat’s Church.
Memorials may be given to St. Patrick Church Building Fund.
