Boyd Hudson dies at 83

Boyd Hudson, of Linden, Ind. and Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., passed away April 12, 2007 at the Hospice House in FMB. He was 83 years old.

He was born Jan. 21, 1924 on a farm three miles east of his Linden residence.

On July 21, 1945 in Lafayette, he married his wife, Helen, to whom he was married 58 years before her death on Dec. 18, 2002.

He is survived by Mikel (Kathleen) Hudson of Lafayette, Janet (Tom) Ruge of Chesterton and Curtis (Cindy) of Linden. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray.

Boyd attended Linden School. After serving in WWII in the army in 1943, he returned to the farm with his Dad, Raymond and also worked at the Alcoa Aluminum Plant in Lafayette where he met his wife, Helen. They farmed together 33 years in the Linden area. After their retirement in 1981, they set up a winter home at Bayside Estates in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., where they lived for 26 years.

Boyd volunteered at the Salvation Army and Health Park Hospital. They traveled to England, Ireland, China and Mexico including mission work in Trinidad and Rotan. He was very active in the Kiwanis, Elks, American Legion and volunteered at the St. Claire’s Hospital in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the Linden United Methodist Church since 1948 and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed dancing, singing around the piano with his family and friends, wood working, fishing, camping and reading. Boyd has enjoyed the company of his dear friend, Dorthea Downing in recent years.

Funeral services, Rev. Patty French officiating, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Linden, Ind. Interment will be at Linden Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Donations can be made to the Linden United Methodist Church, Cancer Society or Hospice House in Ft. Myers Beach.
