Alan Hill dies at 81

Alan Hill of Liberty Twp., passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. He was 81.

He was born Feb. 1, 1926 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Allen and Harriet (Hilliard) Hill, both of whom preceded him in death.

On May 12, 1945 in Frederick, Maryland, he married Mary H. Ream, of Chesterton, his former wife, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by seven children, Michael Hill, of Johnson City, Tenn., Patrick Hill, of Waterloo, Ill., Sandra Hill and Nancy Pirri, both of Chesterton, Anne (Scott) Williams of Hebron, Susie Hill and Melissa Hill, both of Chesterton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alan was a U.S. Navy Veteran and was in the invasion of Sicily from 1941 to 1945. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Alan worked for Brown Inc. where he was a heavy equipment operator in the mid 50s. In later years he became a coach driver for Entertainment Industry where he was the coach driver for Kenny Rogers for eight years and for two years was the personal driver for Lucille Roger (Kenny’s mother) until her death.

Private family services, Pastor Erik Bernth officiating, will be conducted Saturday, March 17 from the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the White-Love Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
