Vera Saari, of Valparaiso, formerly of Chesterton, passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 at Life Care Center of the Willows, Valparaiso. She was 89.

She was born May 1, 1917 in Iron River, Wis., the daughter of William E. and Florence (Ellis) Tharp, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Sept. 16, 1937 in Canton, Minn., she married George Saari, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Robert Saari.

She worked at the Sun-Times in Chicago.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Cremation was at Heritage Crematory, Portage, with interment of ashes at Iron River, Wis.
