Services Saturday for Janice Waugh

Janice M. Waugh, of Merrillville, formerly of Chesterton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at her residence. She was 81.

She was born May 17, 1925 in Porter the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Spencer) Swanson, both of whom preceded her in death.

On May 25, 1944 in Porter, she married Raymond Waugh, who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Robert) O’Donnell of Schererville; a brother, Arthur Swanson of Fairless Hills, Pa.; a grandchild, Todd M. Waugh of Phoenix, Ariz.; beloved friend and confidant, Doris Barlcerak of Merrillville and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Waugh in 1995.

Janice was a home maker. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a former Realtor for Warner-Phillips. She was a Life Time Achievement Award winner for the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Work and Relay for Life for Northwest Indiana. She was a former Treasurer of the Dunes Festival and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2511.

She was also a sales executive for Amana and a Choir Director at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Miller. She did volunteer work for Purdue Home Makers and was also a volunteer Pink Lady at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a former member of the Chesterton Moose Lodge, President of Tenants Assoc. and Founder and Director of 911 Memorial for AHEPA.

Funeral services, Rev. Thelma Megill-Cobbler officiating officiating, will be Saturday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at Chesterton Cemetery with interment of ashes. Cremation was at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
