Richard W. Johnson dies at 92

Richard W. Johnson, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006 at VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso. He was 92.

He was born Nov. 5, 1914 in Gary, the son of C. Elmer and Mabel (Anderson) Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emma (Wick) Johnson.

He is survived by three children, William (Barbara) Johnson of Ann Arbor, Mich., Bonnie Ricard of Chesterton and Carol (Tom) Magill of Chesterton; six grandchildren, Debbie (Ken) Jaeger of Chesterton, William (Jackie) Ricard of Porter, Ken Ricard of Houston, Texas, Kathy Crawford of Chesterton, Michael (Melissa) Johnson of Ga. and Mark (Alexis) Wolfe of Florence, Wis.; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Lillian) Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio and Warren (Linda) Johnson of Salem, Ore.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Wolfe, a sister, Margaret Powell and a son-in-law, Jim Ricard.

Richard was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Chesterton. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Gary. He was Technical Director for Nelson Piano and Organ Co. in Gary was a printer with the Gary Post-Tribune.

Private funeral services, Rev. Thelma Megill-Cobbler officiating, will be at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St. Chesterton.

Visitation will be private.

The family prefers memorials to VNA Horton Hospice Center, 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso.
