Marvin H. Yourist, 83, of Michigan City died Nov. 11, 2006 on Veterans Day
at his home with his family at his side.
He was born May 4, 1923 in Michigan City the son of Ignace and Rose (Sacks)
Yourist, both of whom preceded him in death.
On March 10, 1956 in Michigan City, he married Betty J. Mitchell-Cunningham,
his wife for over 50 years. She survives in Michigan City.
He is also survived by children, Gerald (Linda) Yourist of Michigan City,
John (Eva) Cunningham of Highland, Rodney Yourist of Oak Park, Ill. and
Marlene Statler of Mich.; grandsons, Gerald W. Yourist II of Michigan City
and Shawn Cunningham of Portage; granddaughters, Kelly (Steven) Austin of
Firwood, Mich., Stephanie Schoff of Mich., Angela Florer of Tampa, Fla. and
Lindsay Cunningham of Indianapolis and Lindsay and Cassie Yourist of Des
Plaines, Ill; great grandchildren, Denise, Destiny, Gage and Cassie. A
loving part of their extended family includes Al and Sue Green of Michigan
City and Mark and Glenda Van Dusen. A special daughter includes Valorie
Greer.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Russell Yourist.
Mr. Yourist served for over 33 years for NIPSCO. He was employed as a master
mechanic and engineer. After retirement, he also served as a consultant for
three years.
He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. He was a life
long member of the VFW #2536. He was a master craftsmen, building and
carving beautiful furniture pieces and grandfather clocks. Mostly, he was a
loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
