A memorial service for Martha E. Messina has been set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the American Legion Post 423 in Orland, Ind.

Martha E. Messina, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 49.

Arrangements are under the direction of Edmonds & Evans.

Martha E. Messina, of Chesterton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 49.

She was born Sept. 30, 1957 in Angola, the daughter of Gerald Hamman of Orland, and Bettie Pearl (McCrea) Hamman, who preceded her in 1999.

On. Nov. 24, 1984 in Orland, she married Martin C. Messina, who survives in Chesterton.

She is also survived by a step-daughter, Melissa McLean of Kansas; two sisters, Mary Bender of Indianapolis and Barbara Hamman of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Steve Hamman of Kendallville and two step-grandchildren.

Martha was a Master Sergeant in the US Army for 24 1/2 years. She was a member of American Legion Post 423 in Orland.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Cremation will be at Heritage Crematory, Portage.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
